At
Consumerdigest,
we are committed to your privacy. We have created this policy to demonstrate our
commitment to you and to help you understand it.
We’ll try as hard as possible to make this information understandable in plain
English. But the privacy policy also has legal implications, so there might be
some legal words and definitions that we just can’t do without. Bear with us,
please?
The policy explains how we will gather and disseminate information at this Web
site: http://www.Consumerdigest.net.
How we use your IP address
We may use your Internet Protocol (IP) address to help diagnose problems
with our server and track movement within our web site only to optimize your
experience. We may also collect the referring URL, access times and browser
type. We will not link this information to any personally identifiable
information.
How we use cookies
Our site uses "cookies" to make your experience at our site
specific to you. Currently, if you set your browser to reject cookies, you
cannot use Consumerdigest. We also plan to use cookies to keep track of how you
found out about our site (i.e., what link to Consumerdigest on another site you
may have clicked on).
(A cookie is a tiny amount of data that’s sent to your web browser from a web
server and is stored on your computer’s hard drive. Cookies generally are used
to help web sites identify their users and determine the status of a
"client.")
Information Collected and Use and Disclosure of Information
Our site’s registration form requires users to give us contact information
(like your name and e-mail address), basic demographic information (like your
zip code, age, gender, and education level), and a password. We may use your
contact information to get in touch with you when necessary (for instance, to
get more information about a company you’re contacting, to see what follow-up
action you may want us to take, or if you send feedback on us).
Our letter generator creates individual letters that are sent at your request to
companies, organizations, and government officials. The answers you supply in
the letter-writing process, your e-mail address, and any other contact
information you choose to give (such as mailing address and phone number) will
be shared with the companies, organizations, and government officials to whom
you are writing. We also send your letter to additional recipients, if any, that
you select in our "Influence Wrapper" feature. We will not post your
letter on our site or share it with others without your consent. Consumerdigest
is not responsible for any third party's use of your personal information.
The letter generator also collects feedback in a structured format, resulting in
reportable aggregate data. Demographic and satisfaction data is collected and
shared with third parties. We use this data in aggregate form (i.e., 20% of
people in Illinois providing feedback complained about food quality) to help
companies understand the range and magnitude of consumer feedback about their
products and services.
Consumerdigest's handheld or wireless device application
("Application") also collects the number of infrared "beams"
of the Application to other devices, and transmits that information to
Consumerdigest each time a user synchronizes the Application with our server.
This information may be used by Consumerdigest in connection with offers to
users who have opted in to receive them from Consumerdigest. It will be shared
with third parties on an aggregate basis only. Please note that TRUSTe only
covers information collected on www.Consumerdigest.net.
We will always ask you for permission before sharing your contact information
with third parties interested in sending information and promotional offers
about their products and services. We use an "opt-in" process, meaning
you have to choose to participate or receive information from us or our
partners. If you do opt in, we will use the contact information from your
registration form. You can decide whether to participate in future promotional
offers. See the "Choice/Opt-In" section below.
Our Quick Polls ask visitors for information about attitudes, usage and
behavior. From time to time, we also conduct more detailed surveys of visitors
to our site. You decide whether you want to respond to our Quick Polls or
surveys, and the answers to the questions are reported anonymously at an
aggregate level. We may collect e-mail addresses in connection with our Quick
Polls and surveys in order to award a prize to a participant, but we will not
use the e-mail addresses collected for any other purpose.
Consumerdigest uses contractors and third-party service providers to assist in
certain of its operations. Sometimes it is necessary for these contractors and
service providers to access databases containing personally identifiable user
information in order to provide services to Consumerdigest. Such contractors and
service providers are not permitted to use or disclose such information except
for the purpose of providing services to Consumerdigest.
In addition, Consumerdigest may disclose personally identifiable user
information to others when we believe, in good faith, that such release is
reasonably necessary to (i) comply with the requirements of the law or a legal
process served on us; (ii) enforce or apply the terms of any of our user
agreements; or (iii) protect the rights, property or safety of Consumerdigest,
our users, or others.
Send Your Letter to Others/Pass It On E-mail
Our site gives you the opportunity to enter a friend’s e-mail address to send
a copy of your feedback letter or other information you feel may be of interest.
This use is a one-time only e-mail sent to the recipient and our site will not
send any further communications to the recipient.
Choice/Opt-In
Our site gives you the opportunity to "opt-in" to receive
communications from us and our partners each time we have the opportunity to
request information about you. We will not automatically send you
information/offers you don’t want. Users who no longer wish to receive
communications from us and our partners may contact us at any time to change
their status from "opt-in" to "opt-out." See the
"Access/Correct/Update Your Information" section below.

Users can sign up for BuyersBuzz, Consumerdigest’s weekly e-mail newsletter,
by providing an e-mail address. To remove your name from the BuyersBuzz

Public Forums
Consumerdigest may make chat rooms, forums, message boards and/or news groups

information. You should exercise caution when deciding to disclose your personal
information. We reserve the right to remove any posted material for any reason
(for instance, if it is offensive, defamatory, libelous or in poor taste).
Feedback On Us
The Feedback on Us feature creates individual letters that are sent to us at
your request. Your e-mail address, and any other contact information you give us
such as mailing address and phone number, will not be shared with anyone except
the Consumerdigest employees responsible for the site feature(s) you are writing
about. As a result of your feedback, we may contact you for clarification or
more information, to let you know the results of your feedback, or to thank you
for your interest in our site. From time to time, we single out individual
letters to use as testimonials, but we will not post these letters or any part
of them on our site or disclose them to others without the consent of the person
who wrote the letter.
E-mail Links
We use e-mail links located on the "Contact Us" page to allow you to
contact us directly with any questions or comments you may have. We read every
message sent in and try to respond directly to your questions or comments. This
information is used to respond directly to your questions or comments. We may
also file your comments to improve the site and program, or review and discard
the information. Your personal information is only shared with third parties
with your permission.

other contact information you give us such as mailing address and phone number,
will not be shared with anyone except for the Consumerdigest employees
